The Significance of Microsoft Certified Partner Credentials – What They Mean for You

Email | Print

If your company uses Microsoft products, you know that having the right support and guidance is crucial to success.

Whether you need new software or hardware installed, or want to make sure your employees know how to get the most out of existing software, it’s always comforting to work with a Microsoft Certified Partner.

A Microsoft Certified Partner is an independent company that provides its customers with technical expertise, strategic consulting and hands-on skills that have been taught to them by the experts at Microsoft.

It’s like having access to the world’s largest software company without having to travel to Redmond, Washington!

In order for a company to qualify as a Microsoft Certified Partner, the company must employ a number of Microsoft Certified Professionals who have passed certification exams developed by Microsoft. Microsoft offers Silver and Gold Certifications to their partners. The differences between the two certifications are detailed below:

Silver Partner

In order to earn the designation of a Microsoft Silver Partner, a company needs the following:

  • Have at least 2 Microsoft Certified Professionals on staff or contracted OR submit a product/application that can pass Microsoft’s Silver Competency test.
  • Have at least 1 person on staff or contract that has passed the Microsoft Licensing Overview assessment.
  • Have at least 1 person on staff or contract that has passed the Microsoft sales and marketing competency assessment.
  • Provide 3 unique customer references per competency

Gold Partner

The requirements to become a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner are much more rigorous and require more skill, experience and staff to obtain.

  • Have at least 4 Microsoft Certified Professionals on staff or contract with unique credentials that don’t go towards fulfilling any other Gold Certified requirements OR submit a product/application that passes the qualifying gold competency application test.
  • Have at least 1 person on staff or contract that has passed the Microsoft Licensing Overview assessment
  • Have at least 2 people on staff or contract that have passed the Microsoft sales and marketing competency assessment.
  • Provide 5 unique customer references per competency

Why Should Customers Care About Microsoft Partner Competencies?

The Microsoft Silver & Gold competencies are put in place to ensure that customers are always working with trusted experts that are the right fit for their business. By undergoing tests to obtain certifications, providing detailed examples of work completed and customer references that back up a company’s work, these partners have proven to Microsoft that they’re capable and competent when it comes to working with Microsoft software.

If you’re working with a company that doesn’t have these certifications, you’re taking a big risk in time and money – you may end up working with someone who simply doesn’t know what they’re doing or doesn’t have the experience to get the job done.

Advantages of Working with a Microsoft Partner

Microsoft Partners are multi-faceted and have a deep set of skills in areas such as infrastructure, networking, office automation, business intelligence and other disciplines. This approach allows our partners to provide a full array of services designed to improve your business’s performance.

Every Microsoft Partner receives full and complete support from Microsoft, which means your questions and challenges will be solved faster and more accurately. The information and guidance you receive comes directly from Microsoft, so you know it’s reliable.

A Microsoft Partner averages about 5 years of experience in the real world – they’re familiar with the demands of the business world. The projects and experiences they’ve had provide their customers with solutions that have already been field-tested.

The advantages of being a Microsoft Partner have attracted more than 26,000 businesses around the world, so when you contract with a certified partner, there’s an excellent change you’ll be dealing with a local vendor.

The process to become a Microsoft Certified Partner isn’t easy, but when it’s completed the result is a certified, reliable company that knows the products inside and out. When you deal with a Microsoft Partner, you’re dealing directly with Microsoft.
