4 Ways Windows 7 Improved My Productivity

Email | Print

Besides being the shiny new version in the Windows product line, Windows 7 has proven to be quite helpful in my daily life! As with many product releases, a common objective is to improve efficiencies and overall performance, and in Windows 7 there are 4 features that have greatly improved my productivity.

Searching Capabilities

The search capability within Windows 7 has been a lifesaver! Say you remember receiving a document from your HR department, but you can’t remember where you saved the document, or if you saved it at all. In Windows 7, all you have to do is open a search and start typing text from the document, and a list of results will start appearing. The search will check programs, files, and even Outlook items, making locating the document much faster and easier.

Side-By-Side Window Views

Ever wish you could easily view multiple documents side-by-side? There is no doubt that adding a second monitor to your workstation can improve productivity, but sometimes adding a second monitor is just not in the budget. With Windows 7 you can easily, and quickly, view two items side-by-side. Say you’re drafting an email to a new client, and you are reviewing their website to add some talking points; with Windows 7, you can easily view both your email and the website side-by-side. Already using a second monitor? No worries – now you can view 4 windows; side-by-side-by-side-by-side – a real productivity booster!

Quickly Viewing Open Windows

Do you have multiple Word documents, webpages, or other windows open at one time? No longer do you need to go through those windows individually to switch to the window you want. With Windows 7, all you have to do is hover over the window “group” in the taskbar, and you get a view of all of the open windows for that group. That’s right, if you have 4 different Word documents open, and you switch active windows to check your email, all you have to do is hover over the Word icon in the taskbar, and you’ll see a snapshot of all 4 of the Word documents you have open, so you can easily select the one you want to work on.

Pinning Frequently Used Programs to the Taskbar

Are there certain programs that you use every day, and would like an easier way to access them? With Windows 7, you can not only add frequently used programs to the start menu, but you can also pin programs to your taskbar. No more searching, viewing your full desktop, opening the start menu, or the like; simply turn on your computer, and launch the program right from your taskbar – talk about a major boost in productivity!
